The interactive Growing Raining Tree was commissioned by the Contemporary Arts Center Unmuseum in Cincinnati, Ohio, to open with the CAC in May 2003, and operate for three years.

From its 20-foot diameter pool, the Tree watches for visitors approaching. Awakening, it welcomes guests and interacts with them by moving its four long triple-jointed limbs to slowly dance and gesture. More visitors at different positions around the pool excite the Tree to greater activity. It rhythmically rains from the tips of each of over sixty individual branches into the pool, and rests for a while, awaiting more visitors.

The Tree can be viewed in real time. The image updates every second, or 5 times per second if 'fast' is selected. The Tree operates during Contemporary Arts Center hours, Mon 11-9, Wed-Fri 10-6, Sat&Sun 11-6.
